Our FS200 (Finger Safe 200 amp) connector is the only 200 amp Energy Storage System connector certified as finger safe to UL and IEC standards. When a connector is finger safe to UL and IEC standards, the liability for accidental electrocution shifts from the manufacturer’s shoulders (your company’s shoulders) onto the shoulders of the person who circumvents the connector’s safety features and manages to touch an electrically energized metal component.
BESS manufacturers build energy storage systems by arranging low voltage (circa 48 volt) lithium modules into stacks then connecting adjacent modules in series using short cable assemblies, resulting in high voltages (200 to 800 volts). 90% of lithium modules found in any BESS come equipped with the 200 amp version (aka 8mm version) of a connector system pioneered by Amphenol 25 years ago, before the existence of UL or IEC safety standards for lithium batteries. Besides Rebling’s FS200, no 200 amp ESS connector in the world is finger safe when tested by the finger probes defined in UL1977 or IEC 60529.
The lithium modules in a BESS are required to be compliant with UL1973, which specifically references the finger safety probes defined in UL1977 and IEC 60529. Each BESS is required to be compliant with UL9540, which also references the finger safety probes defined in UL1977 and IEC 60529. Rebling’s FS200 removes liability from your company’s shoulders.
